Information about Some of the Important Sites of Harappan Civilisation

Harappan Civilisation is also termed as Indus Valley Civilisation. Here are given some places related to this civilisation which have been excavated at various times. These places have their own characteristics. This study material is useful for students of history as well as for those who have interest in history and available free of cost for the readers.

Harappa - A prominent city in Montgomery
district situated onn the bank of the river 
Ravi in Pakistan. It was unearthed in 1921.

 Mohanjodaro - In Larkana district, Sindh 
(Pakistan). Situated on the bank of the river
 Indus. It was excavated in 1922.

Ropar - It is situated on the banks of the 
river Sutluj in Ropar district of Punjab. 
The relics of the Harappan and pre-Harappan 
age have been excavated.

 Lothal - It is situated on the banks of the
 river Bhogwa in Ahmedabad district of
 the state Gujrat. The most important 
 finding from this place is Harappan dockyard.

Kalibangan - The relics of pre- Harappan 
as well as Harappan age have been found 
from Kalibangan (Rajasthan).

 Alamgirpur - It is situated on the banks
 of the river Hindon in Meerut district of
 the state Utter Pradesh. It was the Eastern
 limit of the Harappan Culture.

Banawali - It is situated in Hissar district 
of Haryana state. Evidence of  barley of 
best quality is found here.

Rangpur - It is situated in Kathiawar 
peninsula of Gujrat.The remains of the
post - Harappan times have been excavated 
from there.

Ali Murad - It is situated in Sindh Pakistan. 
A big stone fort have been found there.

Kot Diji - It is situated in Sindh, Pakistan.

Chanhudaro - It is situated in Sindh, Pakistan. 
The seal, material used in doll making, 
things made of bones have been found there.

Sutkagedor - It is situated in South Balochistan.
